Dream Works

Iris Strubegger by Alexi Lubomirski for Vogue Germany September 2011

Love the haute couture glamour to this editorial.  There is luxury and drama to every shot with the black and white palette standing out amid the time-worn setting.  I love the sort of melted luxury presented with the dusty crackled rooms and the elaborately wrought furniture as if this was once a place of great pride and opulence only to be forgotten in the passing of time.  Moreover, the dripping candles coupled with the stark color palette of the pieces give a haunted feel to this editorial.  And what lovely pieces were chosen!  Each intricate and full of texture with all the extravagance of haute couture.  This is exactly what I expect of a September issue.  I want to be this excited about the upcoming season as I am reminded of the brilliance of the last.

MaxMara Spring 2011 Campaign Weekend Collection

Jacquelyn Jablonski by Alexi Lubomirski for MaxMara Spring 2011 Campaign Weekend Collection

Quite a colorful change of pace for MaxMara!  Known to for their fabulous tailoring and structured outerwear, this is a lovely fresh take on growing up with color.  And while I’m not a particular fan of color as I favor a more neutral palette, but this surprisingly attracted me.  Must be the great contrast to the dullness of winter.  In any case, Jacquelyn makes an excellent case for spring greens and yellows with vibrant parrots as a bold accompaniment.  Tropical and lush, this makes me long for a summer full of fun and exploring.

Red Hot

Karen Elson by Alexi Lubomirski for Harper’s Bazaar UK October 2010

Smoking hot.  Karen Elson glows in this editorial.   The fashion industry’s favorite redhead does a nice little feature for Harper’s Bazaar UK.  I love that they play up her red hair and give her highlights in various shades of red.  And there’s that ever popular red matte lip that’s been all over the Spring 2011 shows so far.

Dree Hemingway by Alexi Lubomirski for Harper’s Bazaar US September 2010

I love any editorial that focuses on red.  The color saturation in this is fantastic.  And Dree is so very beautiful.  Everything just comes together wonderfully in this editorial.

Abbey Lee Kershaw by Alexi Lubomirski for Vogue Germany August 2010

Oh my darling Abbey.  I just love her.  There’s something awesome about that innocent baby doll face having like 7 tattoos and nose and nipple piercings.  She’s a badass wrapped up in an adorable package.  There’s something very charismatic about her; the fashion world absolutely adores her, especially the Kaiser (Karl Lagerfeld) himself as of late.  This is particularly important as she has a tendency to give us the same guileless look in every shot.   On her, it’s somehow forgivable.  And while she has a fantastic body, I’m quite glad that she’s doing many eds fully clothed.  She deserves better than be delegated those shoots.  In this editorial, I like the switches of character: 60s feminism to 70s flower child to sultry French chanteuse.

Desert Queen

Anja Rubik by Alex Lubomirski for Vogue Deutsch July 2008

Stunning.  Absolutely stunning.  I’m not normally a fan of the tan skin and platinum blond combination but Anja is gorgeous here.  Fierce and intense.  Very regal.  “Desert Queen” indeed.  Her tan skin and deep smokey eye further enhance her hair.  The platinum really stands out in the best possible way.  Anja makes every shot striking.  Alex Lubomirski is rapidly rising in my ranks as a photographer.  He has vision and creativity.  Lovely.

Cheryl Cole by Alexi Lubomirski

I don’t know much about Cheryl Cole.  Other than she’s British, she’s going through a rough time in her personal life, and she’s #1 on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women.  That’s about it.  However, I really like this shoot.  She’s intriguing in it despite the relatively normal posing.  I love the tattoo on the side of her hand; it’s unusual and in an interesting spot.  Sometimes, that’s all it takes for me to interested.  Some little quirk of unusualness and I’m already itching to learn more.

Queen of Posh

Looking, grittily glamourous in this shoot for Vogue Germany, Victoria Beckham truly belongs in the fashion world.  I don’t understand why people hate her so much.   I love her style and her poise when beset by the world.  She knows who she is and keeps doing what she does best, despite all the haters out there.  I’ve never seen someone be written off quite so vehemently before.  She is a style icon to me and I refuse to buy into the hate.  So Victoria, just keep doing your thing.
