Ieva Laguna by Greg Kadel for Vogue Germany November 2010

Now this is fashion with a sense of humor.  It’s disorienting, amusing, shocking, and clever all in one.  With stuffed bras and quirky makeup, this feels a bit like Miuccia Prada took over the styling and concept and is making a clever statement.  I like it.  It’s so kooky and whimsical–almost farcical–without elapsing into the realm of utter ridiculousness.  I like that this editorial is well mixed with quirky styling, pretty shots, and avant garde beauty.  That fifties Louis Vuitton dress looks fantastic with those baby doll lashes.  Shot 12 is cartoonish/comic book-like with the exaggerated bustiness,  shiny pompadour, and ringed red eyeliner like a superhero mask.   I especially enjoy the last shot with the Tom Ford glasses worn off-kilter and the look on her face.  And while the playfulness of it all is great, there’s plenty of seriousness and elegance for people who don’t appreciate the quirkiness.  Shot 6 is classic luxurious camel and minimalist beauty while shots 4 + 5 are pin-up glamour.  Bravo Vogue Germany.

Ieva Laguna by Billy Kid

This girl’s gotta a spark for sure.  I liked her before, but after that shoot for the latest Russh, she had me hooked.  While the first couple of this portrait series didn’t truly wow me, the last 3 certainly made up for it.  Her face is intriguing and I love that she’s unafraid to contort her face into something not necessarily beautiful.  She does remind me a little of Kristen Stewart in the shot above though with her scowl.  But that’s where the similarities end I think.  The last shot of her blowing smoke into the air is memorable too.  I hope to see more of her soon.

Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider

Ieva Laguna & Tony Ward by Will Davidson for Russh #34

I kind have fallen in love with this editorial.  It’s utterly messy, strikingly sensual, beautifully artsy, and perfect in ways I wasn’t able to anticipate.  My like of it kind of took me by surprise, which is fantastic in itself.  I love things that are able to evoke a response without me already knowing I’m going to like/dislike something.  Another thing about this is how fantastically vibrant it is.  The colors run wild in this as the paint serves as a wonderful foil to what’s being created.  This is creativity at its best, and I hope that Russh continues to shock in the best way.

Ieva Laguna by Zig Tesch

A perfect series for summer.  I love the casual sporty chic about it with the loose waves and ever popular (this season) neutrals.  There is an ease about Ieva which is wonderful to see.  Not to mention the tape around her knuckles add interest even if she’s supposed to be playing or boxing.  Also, her eyes really draw me.
