Donna Karan Spring 2012

Credit: Vogue.com

Donna Karan delivers an edgy vibrant spring with a little inspiration from Haiti.  In fact, this is the farthest that I have seen her venture outside of pretty neutrals in recent seasons.  And I like it.  With exotic earthy prints and lovely body-con pieces, there is a warrior-esque feel to this collection.  She keeps the lines clean and the silhouettes flatteringly urban.  I love how she has taken her vision of Haiti and essentially painted it into her designs.  The wonderfully graphic prints and earthy tones reflect the influence of Port-au-Prince artist Philloppe Dodard while the fierce attitude of the pieces convey the strength she sees.  Donna Karan has taken her own aesthetic and adapted it into something sleek and modern without losing her sense of “pretty.”
