Izabel Goulart by Paola Kudacki for Vogue Spain May 2011

Izabel Goulart shows us how it’s done in this smoking hot shoot.  Not only does this shoot make me long for hot weather, but Izabel positively smolders in this.  With the stark lines of all the pieces, she seduces the viewer amidst a backdrop of blue skies and white cliffs.  She comes across as sensual and strong in the relatively simple pieces.  More importantly, there is sex appeal without vulgarity or sleaziness.  A tried summer concept doesn’t come across as bland and one-dimensional.  There are subtle touches that make the shots great.  Paola does a fantastic job as per usual.  For one, I found the one exposed breast in shot 6 a fantastic touch.  Or how Izabel presses her fingers in her thigh in shot 3.  These are the little details that I really enjoy.

Ashley Smith by Randall Mesdon for A Perfect Guide Spring/Summer 2011

Not really paying attention the style, but I love the photography.  There’s a softness about Ashley Smith in this shoot that I really like.  It’s not the most original or creative, but the Ashley’s profile is really well showcased in this.  I am such a sucker for pretty beaches and  classic black and white shots.

Benjamin Ashley, Hirschy & Rebecca Victoria by Zac Steinic for Down With Everything Spring 2011

Oh how I adore the quirky punk.  This editorial is fantastically odd and edgy.  I love how intense it is without massive attitude.  The heavily studded and safety-pinned pieces are oddly charming when coupled with seventies lenses.  Not to mention, gotta love the face paint.  Along with the intriguing ink, I like how this editorial is redefining the punk concept a little.  It is edgy without anger and off-kilter without excessive provocation.  I like the different vibe that structured pieces bring to the table; I love when editorials rework previously defined concepts.

Valerie van der Graaf by Klaas Jan Kliphuis for Avantgarde June 2011

While this shoot is not particularly avant garde, I still found it pleasantly styled at several instances.  Although, the theme to the style feels a bit incongruous with some shots featuring sleek sportswear and others with structured tailoring.  And I hope this doesn’t come off as objectifying, but Valerie truly has a spectacular body.  Her assets are most definitely showcased by the clean lines of the clothes.  I particularly like the feature shot above for how it reminds me of the sentiment of Chloé.  This isn’t particularly eye-catching or provocative, but it is a pleasant sexy little shoot nonetheless.

Arizona Muse by Peter Lindbergh

Arizona Muse by Peter Lindbergh for Stern Magazine May 2011

Arizona has a very strong face.  That may sound a little odd, but it’s true.  Not only does she have rather arresting features, but her ability to convey emotion with just her stare immediately draws the viewer’s eye.  That’s something that simply cannot be taught.   I feel that there’s just a visceral sentiment about her quality of modelling in general; and more impressively, it seems wholly instinctual on her part.   I don’t feel like she’s playing a role or carrying out instructions.  There’s a subtlety to it that I can really appreciate.  She certainly makes for a very compelling subject to photograph.  Coupled with Peter Lindbergh’s distinctive style, a rather tired storyline becomes something more.
