Freezing Allure

Lara Stone by Willy Vanderperre for Vogue China December 2010

As I said earlier, Vogue China‘s slew of editorials lately have been absolutely lovely.  Willy Vanderperre always takes gorgeous photos (see Kate Moss’s shoot back in April for Vogue UK).  And Vogue China shoots are frequently set with this sort of background and occasionally broken furniture.  I love that.  There’s a certainly romantic charm about something dilapidated like that.  This editorial also has a vintage feel to it; not exactly dated, but certainly not modern.  I feel like Lara’s character in this is a woman clinging her past with the extravagant gowns despite the bare wall, torn flooring, and the broken furniture.  Still the execution is gorgeous.  I wonder if Willy shot with film instead of digital for some of the shots.  I certainly appreciate his–and Vogue China‘s–romantic aesthetic.
