Natalia Vodianova

Models are human too!  In the era of extreme airbrushing, it’s nice to know.  Another wonderful thing about Hedi Slimane is his celebration of bodily flaws and imperfections.   In the case of Natalia Vodianova, she’s ethereal; there’s no question about it.  This shoot has arm hair, stomach scars, freckles, moles, and goose bumps–all things that are very natural.  However, that shouldn’t be the focus; it’s just lovely that Slimane can capture humanity in all its glory.  Which is what makes this shoot very powerful.  Besides, those aren’t flaws.  They’re…part of being human.  I am all for striving to be the best one can be, but maybe it’s time we put down that search for perfection and unattainable beauty/intellect/achievement and revel is what we have.  We are all beautiful in some capacity whether that is an exceptional collarbone or compelling eyes.

  1. thao, love the insights; you made some typo errors. “is” should be “in”, verdad?
i think you need more nap time.

    ciao

However, that shouldn’t be the focus; it’s just lovely that Slimane can capture humanity “is” all its glory. We are all beautiful “is” some capacity whether that is an exceptional collarbone or compelling eyes.
