Sara Blomqvist in Rodarte by Ben Toms for Twin #4
Some gorgeous artistry by the Mulleavy sisters. They always manage to transform a seemingly unrelated influence into glorious designs. Inspired by redwoods (Santa Cruz terrain in general actually) for spring/summer 2011, the texture really comes alive in the Rodarte collection. The amount of detail work is astonishing (practically on par with the Mcqueen house if I do say so myself); moreover, the collection comes across as both edgy and ethereal. There are earthy geometric prints fashioned in an armor-like dress and fluid wood-lined pieces that flow in an endless manner. I like how easy Sara is in this and how she just lets the piece speak for itself. Not to mention, that owl (hawk too) is an excellent touch. The pattern to its feathers fits in seamlessly with the clothes. Better yet, this editorials leaves me feeling as I would with a Rodarte show: impressed and just a tad whimsical.
